Dear Families
Year 3 – 5 students commenced the Swimming and Water Safety Program on Monday. Staff report that this is going well. Well done to students who are challenging themselves and having a go at a non-preferred learning activity.
This week I was privileged to be on an External Review Panel for a school up north. South Hobart’s External School Review was a hugely valuable experience for our school and has provided excellent direction and focus for us. Being on this panel was a great opportunity to contribute to a similar journey for another school. When I receive our final report I will share this with families at a School Association meeting. This will be advertised in the newsletter.
Congratulations to our athletic team who attended the Champions Carnival last week. While there were some wonderful achievements by our athletes, I was most proud of their sportsmanship and support of each other. Not only did they cheer and encourage each other and they also did the same for athletes from other schools! A gold medal performance!
In the next few days students in Years 2 – 5 will have the opportunity to nominate for the SRC. They will be asked to make a short speech/presentation to the class who will then vote on their reps. Year 6 students will be involved in their own leadership activities which families will hear more about soon. I look forward to working with our students on some exciting initiatives throughout the year.
Regards
Anne Reeves
Principal

All of us in 3A are amazing, awesome, astonishing, wonderful, terrific, marvellous, remarkable, extraordinary, spectacular, and sensational! On Friday, as part of Health and Well Being, we spent time looking at how we are special and valued by others.
Six pieces of work were randomly selected for the newsletter and all pieces of work are on display in the main foyer.
On the 25 of April, Eleanor, Amelie, Rayyan, Elke, Siena, Olivia and I went into Hobart to march in the ANZAC Day parade. Each school that came had a banner to hold. We had one that represents a war in Egypt that had horses. There were some horses behind us. They joined us halfway through the parade. They had soldiers on them. We walked down a road to the memorial. There were only four spots, so we had to keep switching.
Elke, Siena and Amelie.
On 25th of April , Elke, Siena, Amelie, Olivia and I (from 5B) participated in the Anzac Day March. People took turns holding a large flag.
I really loved the parade because everyone was so supportive. The best part was that there were horses behind us. Even though it was a bit boring since we had to stop a lot, we got Anzac biscuits and hot chocolate at the end which was pretty good.

Anzac Day 2024 by Eleanor and Willa
On the 25th of April 7 students from year 5 and 6 went to the Anzac Day parade. The march reached from St Joseph’s church to the Senotarf where a service was held to commemorate the fallen soldiers. The parade was a voluntary event, and the students from South Hobart Primary carried a flag representing the horses that served in the battles of Irak and Afghanistan. As we walked up the hill the wind grew stronger causing the flag blow in every direction. After the parade had finished, we warmed up with hot chocolates and Anzac biscuits. This lovely experience would have never happened if it weren’t for Mrs Gisborne.

ICAS COMPETITIONS 2024 - Year 3 to 6 Students
Dear Parent / Guardian
We are pleased to run the online ICAS competitions this year in August (Term 3). These are external online educational assessments and are run in partnership with Sydney University. The registrations and payments are organised by ICAS Assessments, while the school provides the venue and test supervision. If you would like more information, please visit: https://www.icasassessments.com
Please note, that the decision to enrol a student in one or more of these assessments is solely the decision of parents/carers and we cannot recommend the decision to sit an assessment. Parents are welcome to purchase past papers through the ICAS website.
The registrations for the ICAS competitions are now open. ICAS request that parents do not enrol their child at a higher grade level, which is checked with the school before the assessment.
Payments and registrations for the assessments are made directly to ICAS Assessments by parents through the online school code provided below. Payments can be made directly through the portal at any time until 3pm on Friday 5th July (last day of Term 2). The parent payment portal will then be closed. Students may sit any or all of the assessments.
URL: https://shop.icasassessments.com/pages/pps with the School Access Code: GAH709
Please take special note of the deadline for payment as this cannot be extended and the school is unable to register students on your behalf. All assessments will be undertaken at school between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The assessments are conducted online using our school computers.
Please contact me if you have any queries via email: helen.rothwell@decyp.tas.gov.au
Yours sincerely

In Term 1 class 6A was set a task to do at home. The task was to create a themed diorama using blown eggs. Students used cardboard boxes and old or recycled materials (non shop bought) to construct a scene with their blown eggs. They had to think of a clever name using 'egg ' in the title, such as 'The Great Egg-scape', 'The Eggy Games and 'Iseegg Newton'. This activity was done at home so that students could demonstrate being productive, prepared and prompt by returning the dioramas to school by the due date. The results were a brilliant range of creative works. You can come and see the egg-tremely egg-cellent dioramas in the school foyer. The display will be there for the next couple of weeks.
