Dear Families
What a fabulous start to the term! Last week it felt like spring was just around the corner and this week we were reminded that it is still definitely winter. Please check that students have warm clothing with them at this time of year. There are still many items on the lost property rack, particularly polar fleece jackets, please check here if your child is missing theirs. Lost property is now located on the deck of the hall opposite the canteen roller door.
It is timely to remind families about the School Uniform Policy (attached), to summarise; navy bottoms (shorts, trackpants, skorts, leggings, trousers), school polo top, polar fleece jacket, socks in white, black or navy with closed toe shoes. Dresses are also available. There is also a soft-shell jacket and school backpack (optional). The School Association provides library bags and sun hats to new students (Kinder – Year 6).
Uniform provides a sense of identity and community and promotes equity for all students. If you require support with school uniform, please contact me here at school.

Yesterday I heard the choir sing during their weekly practice session with Mr Eddleston. They were totally awesome; they sounded absolutely beautiful! The choir will be performing in the next whole school assembly on Monday 23 September (week 10 of this term) at 2:10pm. Save some time in your calendar to come along to enjoy their talent.
If you are in the school, have a look at the dioramas constructed by 1B showing their understanding of habitats and the needs of living things. These are on display in the front office foyer. While you are there have a look further down the corridor for their learning about friends and friendship. 4B also have some wonderful island nations on display outside their classroom. Please enjoy viewing the learning from these two classes.
Regards
Anne Reeves

In 1B we have been learning about friends and how it works to make new friends. We have also been learning about adjectives and where to put them, and how to write compound sentences. We made friendship flowers and Wanted Posters.
In Science we have been learning about living things and their habitats, and what they need to survive and thrive. We researched different living things and learnt about their habitat, diet, needs, threats and interesting facts. We made dioramas and labels.
Please come past the foyer and check out our awesome display of work!
Thanks, from 1B.

Requirements for Volunteers in DECYP Schools
All volunteers in Tasmanian Government schools need a current RWVP and to have completed the Mandatory Reporting training.
Registration for Working with Vulnerable People
This is required for individuals to support in the classroom with parent help and on excursions. RWVP are available through the Department of Justice. Click on the drop-down box 'Licensing & Registrations’. Click on the Vulnerable People link, then click on the Consumer, Building and Occupational Services link. This will take you to a page headed 'Apply for registration to work with vulnerable people'. From here read the information and click 'start my application'.
Depending on demand, applications can take a few weeks to process.
Mandatory Reporting Training
This is a video module with a question attached. Please contact Tania Poultney (Safeguarding Lead) if you require assistance.
SOHO Olympics House Colours Day
During next week classes will be participating in the SoHo Olympics. This involves activities connected to real sports in the Olympics, for example we will have straw javelins for our javelin event. Students will be doing these activities in their classes with their buddy class. As part of our SoHo Olympics there will be a SoHo House Colours Day on Thursday 8 August. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours for the day.
There is no cost, the purpose is connection and fun!
Congratulations to the following students who were chosen by the staff to represent South Hobart Primary School in this year’s DECYP Young Archies. With over 400 entries, it was a extremely hard job for the school staff to pick just 16 pieces of art to go down to the competition. The student’s artwork will be on display at UTAS School of Creative Arts & Media, Hunter Street, from Thursday 22 August – Sunday 8 September 2024, 2.00pm-5.00pm weekdays, 11.00am-4.00pm weekends. This is always a great exhibition and I encourage students and families to go along for a look.

Today students in Year 5 are bringing home a notice about Year 6 camp for next year. This notice provides some important dates to help us organise the camp efficiently and effectively.
Families, please save this date: Camp Briefing for parents – Tuesday 15 October 2024 @ 5:30pm at school. It is vital that families attend as important information is shared. This allows all of us to speak positively about camp, encourage all students to attend and make it a rewarding experience for all.
In the meantime, if students have any questions, please encourage them to come and chat to me and I will do my best to answer!
