Dear Families,
We've had an incredibly busy and exciting week!
On Tuesday, Mr. Nichols and some dedicated parents travelled to Symmons Plains for the State Cross Country event. Our students achieved some impressive results, which Mr. Nichols has detailed in this newsletter. Please take a moment to read the report. We are extremely grateful to the volunteers who attended and supported us—your time and effort are greatly appreciated. Many thanks also to the families who offered to volunteer in response to last week’s News and Notices, even though they were not needed in the end.
Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 PLT classes (4/5A, 5A, 5B, 5/6A, 6A, and 6B) showcased their learning from the options they have been participating in since mid-term one. We enjoyed performances from the guitar, theatre, and dance groups in the hall. Families then visited other learning spaces to view projects in robotics, knitting, film, writing, racquet sports, pattern making and sewing, and 3D drawing. The purpose of these options is to enhance engagement and connections across the school. Teachers offered activities based on their interests and skills, allowing students to connect with like-minded peers.
The Year 5/6 team and I are currently reviewing feedback from students and teachers to plan the options for semester two. These will begin in week one of term three and conclude in week five of term four.
A reminder that on Tuesday, July 1st, we will hold Open Classrooms from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. You are invited to visit your child’s class and see their learning.
On Thursday, July 3rd, we have a whole school assembly where the Early Childhood Choir and Year 5 and 6 bands will perform. The assembly will start promptly at 2:00 pm.
On Tuesday, June 24th, the Year 6 students, accompanied by Mr. Birley, Ms. Welch, Mrs. Izbicki, Ms. Gisborne, Miss Day, and myself, along with teacher assistants Tom R., Marisa, and Orli, will depart for camp at Blue Lagoon in Dodges Ferry. We will return on Friday, June 27th. In my absence, Mrs. Jubb will be acting principal.
Regards
Anne Reeves

The next School Association Committee meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday 24 June will now be held the following Tuesday 1 July in the school library. 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start.
After the sucess of our first Open Classrooms last term, we will be holding another Open Classroom in the last week of term, Tuesday, 1 July. Your childs classroom will be open for you to be able to drop in and have a close up look at their current learning.
The classrooms will be open between 2pm and 3pm.
Every week in Kindergarten we look at closely at a museum specimen, ask questions about what we can see and what we wonder. Recently we had the Pied Oyster Catcher. The children used acrylic paint to represent what they observed.
Please enjoy these amazing artworks!
Interschool Cross Country
South Hobart students have certainly done a fabulous job with their distance running in recent weeks.
We took a very competitive team to the SPSSA Division A held at Bay View College on the 3rd of June.
Our School came second overall behind Howrah Primary, which was a terrific result. Lenah Valley came in 3rd, with Lansdowne in 4th place.
Our Grade 3 Boys came 3rd in the teams event, from 20 schools.
The Grade 4 boys came 1st in the teams event with the Grade 4 girls coming 3rd overall.
The Grade 5 girls ran really well and they were 3rd overall.
A big thank you to everyone that came along on the day to help our team.
Symmons Plains State Cross Country
On Tuesday we sent a huge team up to Symmons Plains for the State Cross Country. We had some cold weather and muddy conditions, but all our students ran their hearts out. We had some fantastic results with 5 top 4 placings:
Grace – 2nd Grade 6 Girls
Matthew – 4th Grade 4 Boys
Goldie – 2nd Grade 3 Girls
Franklin – 4th Grade 3 Boys
Amelie - 1st Para Race
We have had Grace, Amelie, and Matthew picked to represent the state next month.
The following students finished in the top 50 which was a tremendous achievement as some races had more than 270 students in the race:
Hudson 48th
Pippin 43rd
Louie 25th
Olivia 36th
Iona 16th
Austin 18th
Louis 18th
Thanks to our amazing parents, TA’s, and teachers who came along and helped out on the day.

On Friday the 4th of July, the Student Representative Council are holding a school disco and free dress day. We will be taking gold coin donations with all the proceeds going to The Menzies Centre, one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes. The disco is going to be in the school hall. We will also be providing juice boxes and chips as snacks. The disco will be from 11:40am to 12:40pm for Preps to Year 2s and from 1:50pm to 2:50pm for Grades 3 to 6. We hope students can come and enjoy our school disco!

Quiz Night
Our Annual Fundraising Quiz will take place on Saturday, 26 July, at the Ferntree Tavern from 6.30pm (arrival at 6pm for 6.30pm start)
We are looking to raise funds for the South Hobart Primary Soccer teams. The more money we raise the more money we can put to equipment, resources and development.
This evening of fun and joy will not only be a space to raise money, it will present the opportunity for parents to get to know each other more. With questions ranging from sea-ice to popular culture, we have a night of extraordinary fun waiting for you.
We are looking for parents and teachers to organise themselves into teams for the quiz. While it will not work in all instances, it would be good if quiz teams could form around our soccer teams.
As this evening has been organised to raise funds, we ask that each team (tables will be organised into tables for 8) pay $120 to enter the quiz, Those entering as individuals we ask for $20, and those who are unwaged we ask for a donation.
Please make your payments referencing the team name to:

It's back!!
SoHo on Stage returns on Saturday 15th November to showcase some of the amazing talent oozing from the students at our school! Encourage your kids to dust off their tap shoes and harmonicas, or get their friends together to rehearse a magic act, comedy skit, play, dance or whatever skills they have to display! Please mark this date in your diary, and keep an eye on the newsletter in Term 3 for ticket sales and performer expression of interest forms.
We have a great organising committee for this event, but would love a few more helpers to join our crew to ensure the planning for this large event runs smoothly. Please email sohoonstage@gmail.com if you are keen.
It's a lot of fun!
Thanks!

School Garden Market Sunday November 2nd
Please contact Bron Kimber on 0405237642 or bronkimber@gmail.com if you can commit to 1hr volunteer time before, during or after the event, or if you can join the organising committee, which would require roughly 5hrs of your time in the preceding 15 weeks before the event. We need at least 20 volunteers for this event to go ahead.
