Dear Families,
What a wonderful celebration of the arts we’ve had at school this week! Congratulations to all our students for the incredible results of their hard work in music, performing arts, and visual art—all proudly on display.
A special thank you to Mr Eddleston and Mrs Wallace for their dedication to our drama and music programs. The performances on Tuesday and Wednesday were the culmination of many weeks of planning and rehearsing, and their efforts truly shone through.
Arts Week offered students a wide range of choices. Those who wanted speaking roles had the opportunity to take to the stage, while others contributed in non-speaking roles or supported younger classes with their acts and dances. Some students chose to be part of the crew—working on stage, backstage, sound, lighting, or front of house. Every role was important, and every student played their part beautifully.
All I can say is: they’ve done an incredible job! If you were able to attend any of the performances, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Many thanks to Ms Gisborne for her work with students throughout the year. The culmination of their visual art is now on display in both the downstairs and upstairs corridors of the main building. These artworks will remain on display for the rest of the term—please take a moment to enjoy them.
We are also extremely grateful to our families for your support—whether it was providing costume pieces, helping students arrive early on performance days, or attending the shows. Your involvement makes all the difference.
Everyone involved should feel very proud!
Regards
Anne Reeves

If your child will not be continuing at South Hobart in 2026 — even if this is just a possibility at this stage — please email me as soon as possible at anne.reeves@decyp.tas.gov.au. Our staffing allocation from the Department is directly linked to student enrolment numbers, so having accurate information early is essential for effective planning of classes and learning support.
If you have any relevant information you would like me to consider when placing your child in a class for next year, please email me by COB Friday 12 September. I encourage you to think carefully about the information you share and its significance. While I will do my best to accommodate requests, please understand that class placements are complex and influenced by many factors. As such, not all requests can be met.
Thank you for your support as we plan and prepare for another great year of learning.
In 2B we have been exploring idioms. Idioms are those quirky sayings that don’t really mean exactly what they sound like. We’ve had fun sharing idioms we already use, discovering ones we had never heard before, and trying to predict their meanings. We even had a go at creating our own idioms! We were surprised to realise just how many idioms we use every day without even noticing.
Which of these Idioms do you use the most often?
Some of our perfomers strutting their stuff on the stage.
This is just a small sample of the variety of arts works on display around the school.
Please come in and admire all our hardwork.
We had a fabulous swimming carnival last week which was held at the Clarence pool on Wednesday the 3rd of September.
We had some terrific swimming from our students in the main pool and they had lots of fun in the novelty pool.
Thank you to all our amazing volunteers, TA's and teachers who helped out on the day.
Final results:
Wattle 1st - 1966 points
Myrtle 2nd - 1654 points
Banksia 3rd - 1594 points.
The Interschool Swimming Carnival will be held on the 4th of November.

Dear Soccer Family
We are super excited to invite you to our end of year celebration and medal presentations this Saturday from midday.
The medal ceremony will start with a BBQ available from 12, medals and games will follow the BBQ.
Following the medal presentations we will then draw the amazing annual raffle. Our annual raffle is a key part of our soccer calendar. Fundraising allows us to invest in equipment and development. We have huge plans for 2026, including a big push to support participation and development for girls - largely, this is only achievable through fundraising.
You can buy a ticket or five right here. Follow this link to purchase your tickets https://www.raffletix.com.au/shpssoccer
See you Saturday!
Other updates:
- Futsal at Kingborough starts in October, the last day for registration is the 10 October, contact your coach, other parents to organise teams or contact us. Futsal is an amazing training experience and we fully support and encourage participation. We also encourage teams to use our kits, it's great to see the school pride on display.
- If you are not participating in Futsal can we please have the T-shirts handed back. These t-shirts cost $30 and we lose about 20% each year.
- Did you enjoy the Hobart Cup? or heard that others did?, well, on the 1st weekend of November we are looking to take a few teams to a competition in Sorell. The competition has been organised just for schools, and creates a great opportunity for those children playing for clubs to come back to the school and play with their mates. Keep an eye out for emails nearer the time.
