Dear Families
It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of yet another year! Today we farewelled our Year 6 students and a few students from other grades who are moving to different schools. We wish them well for the future.
Goodbye and thank you to families whose association with South Hobart Primary ends today. Thank you for your support and for working with us in partnership. On behalf of the school, I wish you well.
Thank you to Kasha, Josh and Kian for leading assembly today and Frankie, Zoe, Zac, Abby, George and Zac for doing such a great job farewelling your teachers today.
Just some follow up on two student led initiatives held recently. Firstly, Hidden Disabilities, organised by Josh and Hudson where they raised awareness and money to purchase some items to help students with a disability in our school. (See them pictured here, compiling their order, the goods should arrive early next year.) Secondly, the Bonorong Animal Hospital Fundraiser organised by Monica, Eleanor, Grace, Lilah and Ollie who raised $608.05.
Congratulations to both groups of students on their initiative and organisation!
I wish all our families a safe, healthy and happy Christmas and holiday. See you back next year.
A reminder to families that school resumes on Thursday 8 February 2024.
Regards
Anne Reeves
Principal

Enrolments for 2024 – currently sitting at 450. There are 19 new or returning students. There are 6 students moving to the private system. 67 Year 6 students leaving and 39 new Kinders. |
Year 6 assembly – was held yesterday and went extremely well. Congratulations to all students for their successes at primary school and to students who won awards. Many thanks to Mrs Rothwell, Ms Price, Ms Weustenfeld and Mrs Cunningham for organising the assembly. Thank you to Mr Reade for working with the band and Mrs Wallace for her work with students on their dance. And, thank you to the students, you did a great job! |
Colour Run – was held last Friday. Students who participated enjoyed the experience and went home very colourful! Thank you to the organising committee, staff and parents for your support and for making this fun event happen. |
Playground Working Group – will be meeting at the end of this for an initial walk around and consideration of our playground. The first meeting will be based around; “what’s working”, “what’s not”, “what ideas do people have?”. Next year there will be increased involvement from the association. The aim is to have a strategic, long-term view and resulting plan. |
Stair Climber – a stair climber was installed in week 8, to allow improved access to the top floor. This will enable anyone with an injury or other condition that makes using the stairs difficult to still be able to access the upstairs classrooms. This has been something that I have been working on for a while and it is great to have this addition to our school. |
Combined Primary School’s Band concert – held Friday 24 November. Students did an amazing job. Thank you to parents for supporting them in their musical endeavours. I received an email from someone from the TSO congratulating all the schools, the students and the staff who work with them on the calibre of their performance. Well done! |
Last day assembly – will be to farewell departing staff, Ms Beauchamp, Ms Goodall and Mr Harrison who has been doing relief teaching, just for South Hobart for the past seven year. There will be a final farewell of Year 6 students and other departing students, followed by Farewell Avenue for all departing students and staff. |
Jumping Jacks Visit – these students from Illawarra Primary performed for us and showed amazing agility and skill. We were all particularly impressed with their attitude and their response when a mistake was made . . . just keep going! |
NITA – were here on 3 and 10 November and worked with all classes. |
ICAS / AMT Competitions – 70 Year 3 – 6 students participated in these competitions. 7 ICAS medals were awarded to 6 students from our school. (Out of the 24 available in our state). |
Triathlon – an absolutely huge event! Thank you to Mrs Corney, Sue in admin and TA Nick for the countless hours that they all spent organising this event and preparing the triathlon kits. Thank you to staff who attended on the day and to parents who volunteered their time to help supervise. |
Champions Swimming – twelve students attended this and acquitted themselves well. |
Year 5 Camp meeting – held in week 7, it was great to meet with parents early to help ensure the smooth running of this event. |
Funding Request – could the School Association fund the purchase of a new trombone and a new tenor saxophone? This would help support our band program greatly. Our tenor sax is irreparable, and our Year 5 player is currently using Mr Reade’s instrument. We would like a second trombone to add to the new Year 5 band next year. |

All school uniforms ordered for next year can be collected from the office on Monday the 1st of February and Tuesday the second, between 9am and 3pm. All uniforms are ordered and paid for via the Qk! app.
On Tuesday, Kinder B students planted four Dogwood trees along the Rivulet track. Planting the trees is very special to us as we enjoy our time in Bush Kinder throughout the year. As the children progress through the school the trees will be growing along with them, giving them a special connection to the rivulet into the future. |
Thank you to Bec Johnson from the Hobart City Council who made this possible.
