Week 1
Dear Families
Welcome back to school and to the 2024 school year. We have had a wonderful, settled and positive start to the term. Students have returned, looking fabulous in school uniform, rested and ready to learn.
All staff have put in a tremendous effort preparing our school for learning, including both classrooms, shared areas and grounds. Thank you everyone!
We have some exciting events coming up this term:
- Week 3 will be meet the teacher. This is an opportunity for families to meet one to one with the teacher and share relevant information. Appointments will be out as soon as possible.
- On Friday 23 February the School Association will be hosting a “Welcome Back” BBQ. This is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and welcome new families to our school. There will be more information in the newsletter, there is also some information on the SA Facebook page.
- South Hobart will be having our four-year annual review in week 4 (Monday 26 – Wednesday 28 February). There will be opportunity here for families to speak with the panel and provide feedback. (Details in next week’s newsletter.)
- On Thursday 29 February our Year 6 band students have been invited to play at the statewide DECYP leaders conference at My State Arena. (Hardcopy letter will be sent home tomorrow.)
- They Year 3 – 6 athletics will be held on Tuesday 5 March (week 5) at Sandown Park. (More details in next week’s newsletter.)
- Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN in March.
- Year 6 students will be attending camp at Hagley Farm School Monday 25 – Thursday 28 March.
- Whole school cross country on Wednesday 10 April.
- There will also be a whole school assembly in week 10.
- There are two School Association meetings this term; Tuesday 27 February and Tuesday 9 April. (The April meeting will start with the AGM, followed by the first meeting of the new committee.) Some committee members are retiring after completing their two-year term so there are vacancies on the committee, so please consider nominating.
Today you will receive a pack with enrolment validations and other forms that we require. Please complete these and return them to school as soon as possible. We require these to have excursions, use technology and ensure we have accurate medical and contact details for students.
As always, if you have any queries at any time, please speak to your child’s teacher, our friendly admin staff or myself or other members of the leadership team.
Regards
Anne Reeves
Principal

Safeguarding Training in our School
SAFEGUARDING TRAINING IN OUR SCHOOLS
To all our volunteers – have you completed your safeguarding training yet?
The training is compulsory under new laws designed to better safeguard children and young people in Tasmania. It will help you understand what to do if you believe a child or young person is or may be being harmed, and to make sure you are doing all you can to prevent this from happening. The training will also tell you what you must report under the new laws.
Remember you will need to finish it before working in our school this year.
If you are a parent and are thinking about volunteering for us, you can also do the training. You will need this to work with children and young people. Make sure you save the certificate to show you have completed it.
In the next few weeks, the school will offer group sessions on-site and provide devices for families to use to complete the training. The course takes 30 – 45 minutes to complete. Please keep an eye on future newsletter for further information.
If you would like to complete the training in your own time you can use the link below. When you complete the training, either independently or here at school, please email your certificate to south.hobart.primary.admin.staff@decyp.tas.gov.au
To complete your training, visit Safeguarding Training.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and young people safe so that they can focus on living bright lives with positive futures.
Please contact me here at school if you have any queries.
