Dear Families
Our SRC is in full swing with two events planned for this term. Firstly, a Welcome to Winter Oodie and Uggs Day to raise money for homeless people and secondly, a disco. Please see the items from the students in the newsletter.
More from students, 4A have some creative thinking about adaptations and some angle art to share. Please enjoy viewing this in the newsletter. A display of this learning will also be in the foyer, please feel free to come and have a look when you are in the school.
There will be a School Association meeting next week on Tuesday 25 June, 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start (in the school library). Come along, I will be sharing the School Improvement Plan (SIP). The SIP guides all of our school improvement activities and tasks.
Thank you to families who were able to attend Three Way Conferences. These are important times for students to share their learning with their families and it was great to see so many families attend.
Congratulations to the students who attended the State Cross Country event at Symmons Plains on Tuesday. Students did a great job representing the school and there were some great individual performances. Congratulations to Grace (Year 5) and Matthew (Year 3) who both came third in their races and have been invited to the National competition. Many thanks to Mr Nichols and parents Mark, Nina, Aniela, Jen and Sarah for accompanying the students on the day. We could not provide these opportunities without assistance from families.
Regards
Anne Reeves

School Association Agenda for June Meeting
The next School Association Meeting, will be held in the School Library on Tuesday 25 June from 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start.
The agenda will be sent via Schoolzine App.
Fantastic Fact Files
In class we have been exploring informative texts. For this we had to research real animals. Then we made up our own animals. Some students combined other animals to make theirs, while others created a completely new creature. Everyone has designed unique animals with creative names and here are three examples. We had fun making these extraordinary fact files and look forward to making posters to report about our awesome animals.
Please feel free to come into our classroom to have a look at all of our "Animals."
Amazing Angle Art
In maths we are learning about angles, so as an art activity we used rulers to draw lines on a piece of paper. We then needed to use protractors to accurately measure the obtuse, acute and right angles. Some of us wrote a key to show what colour was for each type of angle and others just coloured in the blank spaces or drew patterns in them. Some students measured incorrectly but they showed resilience and tried again. Our class had lots of fun learning about angles and making this awesome art and hope to do something like this again.

Closing Date for Book Club Orders
Book Club Issue 4 is closing tomorrow – Friday 21st June!
Order your books tonight!
Every purchase you make on Book Club earns our school 15% of the order value in Scholastic Rewards. We use these to purchase more books and educational resources for the school.
It all helps!
Just a reminder that the school car park is for staff, all access parking (students and families with a disability parking permit) and visiting personnel on site to support students. Car parking for families is available in surrounding streets or the gravel car park of C3 (dependent of events – there is signage at the bridge if an event is scheduled for the day).
Recently there have been numerous vehicles executing U turns at the entrance to the school driveway both before and after school. This is extremely dangerous to students and other people who are crossing the driveway, particularly students who have alighted the bus in Macquarie Street. Please do not use the school car park for parking, U turns or three-point turns.
Recently South Hobart Primary received a kind donation from The Children’s Book Council of Australia to purchase books from The Hobart Bookshop. As students have expressed a keen interest in Manga, Helen Rothwell kindly sourced this great range of mostly Graphic Novel books to add to our collection.
The SRC are holding a disco for all students on Thursday 4 July in the school hall/gym.
Years Kinder - Year 2 : 4.00pm through to 5.00pm.
Years 3 - Years 6 : 5.15 through to 6.30pm.
This is a free event, but you will need to register your child/ren via the Schoolzine App, which will open tomorrow and be available until July1.
Calling those of you who like to get down and boogie! Are you the Nureyev of the Nutbush? A maestro of the Macarena? A champion of the Chicken Dance? Come along and volunteer to help out at the disco. Roles include general supervision and supporting SRC reps to provide refreshments. If you are able to help at either disco please let Anne Reeves know via the SZapp (indicate at which disco you are available to help)?
Thank you.

ICAS COMPETITIONS 2024 - Year 3 to 6 Students
Dear Parent / Guardian
We are pleased to run the online ICAS competitions this year in August (Term 3). These are external online educational assessments and are run in partnership with Sydney University. The registrations and payments are organised by ICAS Assessments, while the school provides the venue and test supervision. If you would like more information, please visit: https://www.icasassessments.com
Please note, that the decision to enrol a student in one or more of these assessments is solely the decision of parents/carers and we cannot recommend the decision to sit an assessment. Parents are welcome to purchase past papers through the ICAS website.
The registrations for the ICAS competitions are now open. ICAS request that parents do not enrol their child at a higher grade level, which is checked with the school before the assessment.
Payments and registrations for the assessments are made directly to ICAS Assessments by parents through the online school code provided below. Payments can be made directly through the portal at any time until 3pm on Friday 5th July (last day of Term 2). The parent payment portal will then be closed. Students may sit any or all of the assessments.
URL: https://shop.icasassessments.com/pages/pps with the School Access Code: GAH709
Please take special note of the deadline for payment as this cannot be extended and the school is unable to register students on your behalf. All assessments will be undertaken at school between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The assessments are conducted online using our school computers.
Please contact me if you have any queries via email: helen.rothwell@decyp.tas.gov.au
Yours sincerely
