Dear Families
While this is a News and Notices edition there is quite a lot of content, so thank you in advance for reading this.
Congratulations to Prep B who were the first class to return all of their validation forms this year, they were closely followed by 3B. Both these classes will have some extra play time coming their way! Thank you to all families for your support in returning these documents, we have had the fastest return rate ever!
From weeks five to eight (3 – 28 March inclusive) I will be taking leave. In my absence Mrs Bec Corney will be acting principal. I know the school will be in great hands with Mrs Corney’s wealth of experience and knowledge. She will be ably supported by the leadership team – Mrs Jubb, Mrs Rothwell, Mrs Poultney, Mrs Rice and Ms Peatling.
Regards
Anne Reeves

Welcome from the School Association
The first meeting of the year is next Tuesday evening (25 February) in the library, 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Drinks and nibbles are provided. All are welcome, we love seeing new faces. If you would like to learn more about what’s going on at the school or in the association, or perhaps contribute to an event this year, please come along. All parents/carers of student/s at the school are members of the association. If you would like to be on the committee, elections will be held in March. Stay tuned to the newsletter for more details!
Please find the link below for the agenda for the upcoming February School Association meeting. The meetings are held in the library from 6:30 for a 7:00 pm start.

The link below is the minutes from the last meeting held on December 10 2024.
Volunteers Required:
We are seeking volunteers for our upcoming Primary Athletics Carnival.
Time - 9.30 to 2.30pm
Venue - Domain Athletics Centre
Date - Friday 7th March
Volunteers need to hold a current Registration for Working with Vulnerable People and must have completed the Safeguarding video.
Mr Nichols.
Just a reminder that all volunteers at the school, for all purposes, are required by DECYP rules to have a current, Tasmanian Registration for Working with Vulnerable People (RWVP) and to have completed the Mandatory Reporting training.
Mandatory reporting is required each calendar year.
RWVP are applied for through the Justice Department. Please allow time for processing as at times this may take weeks. The school is unable to make exceptions to this requirement.
Teachers Communicating with Teachers/Seesaw
As a staff we are still working through the new Seesaw requirements and how we can best share students’ learning with you. A change from last year is that the capacity for parents to communicate with the class teachers via Seesaw will no longer be available. This is a department wide decision. Parents will still be able to like and comment on student learning that is posted.
Contact from parents to teachers will continue via phone (6223 6040), the contact us button on SZapp, email and in person. If you need to speak with a teacher and it involves more than a quick chat, please make an appointment in advance as teachers have meetings two afternoons each week and in the 8:30am – 9:00am time slot they are busy engaging with students and having quick chats. An appointment in advance means that an appropriate amount of time can be set aside to speak with you.
A reminder that parent teacher meetings are being held next week. Bookings on Szapp closed today at 12:00pm. If you have not yet made an appointment please contact your child's teacher directly to make a time. Teachers can be contacted via the contact us button on Szapp, email, phone (6223 6040) or in person. The purpose of these meetings is for families and teachers to build positive relationships and work together to support your child. It is a great opportunity to give your child's teacher any information to help your child be successful at school.
In order to receive effective communication for your child(ren) could families please subscribe to your child's class (eg. 1A) and their year level (eg. year 1) on SZapp. You will need to do this for each of your children.
This is also required for Qkr! when ordering uniform, ordering sushi or other payments.
Please do this as soon as possible so that communication can be made in a timely manner.
Thank you.
Dear Soccer Family,
We are excited to reach out and encourage your participation in the 2025 Soccer Season, and what an amazing season we have in front of us.
The season will kick off with our FunDay on Sunday the 23 March (previously communicated as the 16), an amazing day of fun and community for all.
Saturday games begin on the 3 May, and all teams will be automatically entered in a soccer competition that takes place over the end of August and the first weekend of September.
On the 26 July we will come together for the Soccer fundraising quiz night. An evening to remember and a community to share it with.
On the second weekend of September we will have our end of season Funday - join over 400 family members celebrating a beautiful season.
There's no limit to the fun. During the year there will be a range of competitions that we will seek to involve teams and families, The Southern Cup In April, the Devonport Cup in July and the Launceston Cup in September. South Hobart Primary School Soccer Association teams have not only performed well in these competitions; they have thrived, and that's why, this year we will be looking to take a team to a national competition run in Brisbane. Regardless of ability, we have opportunities for every child who wants to play the game.
We are also establishing a structured development program for the coaches who would like to use it. The program will provide training content to help coaches to support team development. We will also organise regular Master Class sessions for the children to focus on a key skill, or area of the game. Futsal has also taken its place in the development program, year round indoor 5 v 5 in a small playing area - the results are astonishing, players are really able to accelerate their development and fun.
Complete the following form to express interest in your child/children joining their mates in the school soccer.: https://forms.gle/T8B1veREfpZQmk9j8
Coaches! We only manage what we do, because of the kind and generous time given by parents who volunteer to help out. Without the coaches, the none of this would be possible. Please join other parents in helping to run the soccer teams. For the first time this year we are establishing Team Admin to help with the organising of team activity and keeping families up to date. Volunteer either of these roles on the form above.
Essential for finding out all the latest information and gossip, is our facebook page. Follow our page here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565897851602
What's next?:
- Fill out the form above. We will then contact you to propose teams,
- You will then need to re register or register with Football Australia
- Lock in the 23 March for the Funday Day
- Wait for communication from the coach and team admin people
- Prepare for kick off on the 3 May
Clothing / kit
- The blue t-shirts. we will give each coach enough shirts fort all players

Volunteering
The Soccer Association is run by volunteers, we have no paid staff and the registration fees we charge cover only minimal equipment. So fundraising is central to all activities, activity that is only possible with parent involvement. We are making a call for support with Coaching, Admin and communication of teams, Funday helpers, quiz night helpers - so please; get in touch.
We can't wait to see you and your little ones.
In solidarity,
South Hobart Primary School

Donations Required for Soccer Fun Day
Soccer gear donation request
We’ll be having a soccer gear giveaway at the soccer fun day on Sunday 23rd March, participation by donation. Please bring any donations of both SHPS and Morton’s soccer clothing, boots or gloves to the fun day within an hour of the starting time, or you can leave donations at the office. Please spread the word! This is a fantastic way to fit your kids with the next size boots etc., but it relies on everyone remembering to donate their soccer gear first!
