Dear Families
It was a very busy couple of weeks at South Hobart Primary School. Last week the grade 6 leaders and teachers did a wonderful job at organising events for Harmony Day and World Down Syndrome Day. We dressed up in traditional dress or wore orange on Tuesday. There were 3 legged races at recess time and games during lunch. Students had cut out paper people chains for classes to decorate, a map put in the hallway for us to mark where we come from and then on Friday, we wore odd socks to recognise World Down Syndrome Day.
On Friday 21 was Ride the Rivulet. It was a great event with 196 participants and a few more joined in on the day. The event ran very smoothly thanks to all the organisers. The children looked like they were having a great time and the look on the grade 5’s faces before their race were that of determination. So much fun.
The grade 5-6 students are well and truly underway with options on a Wednesday afternoon. Going around the classes and seeing students engaged in these options is a pleasure to see.
Well done to the grade 3 and 5 students and staff, for showing persistence with the NAPLAN this year. It is now Prep and Grade 1's turn with them completing their PAT (Progressive Assessments Tasks) during this week and next.
Reminder we are having open classroom on Thursday 3 April 9-9:40am. Families are invited to see what learning is happening in the classroom.
Congratulations to Caitlin Rice who has accepted a direct appointment to Blackmans Bay Primary School as an AST (Advanced Skills Teacher). Caitlin is really looking forward to learning new things in her new role from the 2 April till the end of Term 2. We wish her well on this new learning journey.

We are looking for 6 x Year 5 students to represent South Hobart Primary School at this year’s ANZAC Day parade, on Friday the 25th of April. ANZAC Day falls in the holidays between 1st and 2nd term. Any students that volunteer need to be available on this day.
Students will be walking with Jo Gisborne, the visual arts teacher. Parents, or carers, need to meet Miss Gisborne before the parade and collect students at the Cenotaph at the end of the event.

Congratulations to our wonderful Grade 3 to 5 students who have been selected by their peers to represent their class on the Student Representative Council in 2025. Already these students have begun meeting as a group on Tuesday’s during lunch with Ms Jubb and have spent time participating in various activities to get to know each other as a team. We are seeking expressions of interest for grade 5/6 students for the school waterpolo team in 2025 held over term 2. Training is usually (tbc) on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 pm and games are on Friday evening both normally held at the Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre. Teams are mixed and the focus is on fun and participation. It does require some swimming ability and children should be able to swim 50m unaided. Coaches are generally older, former South Hobart Primary students. Previous years have been fun and a great way of increasing students aquatic and team skills. Whilst this is a South Hobart Primary School Team it is not coordinated by the school and requires parental support for it to occur. Could anyone interested please email Mel melanie.gr.east@gmail who can get your child's name down and email you more information. The cut off date will be the 4th of April.
