Message from the Principal

Dear Families

We have very quickly come to the end of the first term of the year. And what a busy term it has been! Along with classroom learning we have been busy with; PAT assessments, NAPLAN, Year 3 – 6 athletics, interschool athletics, whole school cross country, Hurricanes visit, football clinics, Year 5/6 options, School Association welcome BBQ, AGM and elections and much teacher professional learning!

Many thanks to Mrs Corney, Mrs Jubb, Mrs Rothwell, Mrs Poultney, Ms Peatling and Mrs Rice who in their leadership capacity lead the school in my recent absence. I include in my thanks all staff who worked with them, and for our students to progress school goals and priorities in this time.

Yesterday students participated in our very successful Cross Country Carnival. Despite an exciting start with the whole school on the oval due to a fire alarm, all events ran smoothly. Many thanks to Mr Nichols for his organisation and for preparing students for the event. Thanks also to all staff who supported students and made the event possible. This includes teachers, teacher assistants, admin and grounds staff – we all work together for our students.

Finally, I need to thank and recognise the students. I had many parents and staff comment to me, and I had witnessed this myself, how supportive and encouraging our students are of each other. We saw; students high fiving each other as they passed on the track, students stopping to help a peer who is injured or struggling, students running with a peer who needed some encouragement, students congratulating each other on their efforts (not just winning!) and students providing positive affirmations and support to peers. Well done to our students for showing us this wonderful part of our school community.

Thank you to the many parents, grandparents and family friends who came to school and supported our students. Thank you also to those of you who volunteered your time to act as marshals and officials on our course. We very much appreciate your time.

On Friday we have eleven students participating in the Champions Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to Grace, Amelie, Oliver, Julian, Florence, Matthew, Jack, George, Louis, Goldie and Ellie on being selected and all the best for your events!

Friday is also the final day of term one. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 28 April.

Regards

Anne Reeves
