Dear Families,
Thank you to all the families who joined us for Open Classrooms and our Whole-School Assembly on Tuesday. The school was buzzing with energy as parents and grandparents engaged with students in their learning spaces. It was wonderful to see so many visitors connecting with our classrooms and celebrating the students’ learning.
The assembly that followed was a true showcase of musical talent. The Prep–Year 2 choir, led by Miss Purdie Day, delighted the audience with heartfelt renditions of Cover Me In Sunshine by Pink and When I Grow Up from Matilda the Musical. Their beautiful voices brought a tear to many eyes!
Mr Eddleston’s acapella group then took the stage with vibrant performances of Siyahamba, Price Tag, and Da Doo Ron Ron, followed by a soulful finale from the choir singing Sittin’ on The Dock of the Bay — a recent addition to their repertoire, performed with great enthusiasm.
A huge thank you to Miss Day and Mr Eddleston for their dedication, especially during lunch times, and to all the students for their hard work and commitment.
We also celebrated our students who participated in Brixhibition and the Mathematics Association of Tasmania Maths Relay held on Sunday at Rosny College. Special thanks to Miss Peatling for organising and supporting our relay teams, and to the parents who helped with transport.
Brixhibition was a great success, with 43 entries organised by the SRC. Thank you to Mrs Jubb and the SRC team for their efforts, and to all students who took the time to create and share their imaginative entries.
As we approach the final day of Term 3 this Friday, I want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our students, staff, and families throughout this busy but productive term. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday — we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 13 October for the start of Term 4.
Regards
Anne Reeves

Update to Kiosk Sign-In Process – Term 4
As part of a small process change, throughout Term 4 we will be transitioning to the use of printed tickets at the kiosk. This adds one simple step to the current sign-in process for both students and volunteers.
Students:
- Signing in/out will continue via the kiosk.
- After signing in or out, students will now need to press “Print Ticket”.
- The printed ticket must be handed to admin staff.
- Students signing in after 9:00am will still need to collect an orange card to give to their teacher.
- Students signing out early must also pass their ticket to admin staff before leaving.
Volunteers:
- Volunteers will sign in as usual using the kiosk, then press “Print Ticket”.
- They will need to show their RWVP card to admin staff.
- Admin staff will then provide a visitor lanyard.
- Volunteers are asked to place their printed ticket into the lanyard pouch before heading to their volunteering area.
We appreciate your support as we make this small adjustment to improve our sign-in processes. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.

Competition Presentations – Save the Date

Parents/carers are welcome to attend. There will be no need to RSVP.
Please find below the link to the latest Minutes from our September meeting.
Today we celebrated Sports Colours Day, with the Year Six students organising a sausage sizzle and buddy games for the whole school. There were a whole range of different games, from Mushroom Tag, to Tug of War, to the Rainbow Parachute. Each group took two classes each, and organized an outside game, and an inside one for a backup. The purpose of these activities were to create, build and strengthen our community. On a whole, today was a huge success!!
A special thank you to the School Association for funding the event and an extra special thanks to Peter Young, Mrs Rothwell, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Isbicki for coming in and volunteering their time! Thanks to Meegan Hasted for the donation of the decorations.
We had two fabulous South Hobart Teams give up their Sunday morning, and some Friday lunches for the Maths Relay last Sunday. Ada, Eleanor, Neve, Grace, Ollie, Echo, Ollie, and Theo all worked well together and had fun answering questions together as a team. They represented our school exceptionally.
Arts Week 2025
Our walls adorned with master pieces from all grades.

Here are some of our 3D pieces.

I loved Arts week because the whole school got to participate in class performances and watch other classes acting, singing or dancing. The reason I liked watching performances was because all the acts were great. There were acts about family these included the future family, the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and present day (2050).
The rest of the performances were dances or songs being played by the band.
My favourite part was when everybody was helping each other backstage.
Georgina
I loved the music, it was very precise. It flowed into the acting which was great. I thought that the costumes really matched the decades. For the future scene we didn’t really know what they would wear but we took a stab and did really well.
I was Grandma in the future scene. I didn’t really like the wigs, but it was fine. It all came together quite nicely. My friends were in crew and ushers and everybody did their part and it worked out.
Dulcie
I started the week with a dress rehearsal for the play Mrs Wallace wrote so kindly.
On Tuesday we had the first performances. (I was in both) They were so fun and went smoothly.
In the backstage area we were told that we were able to be heard by the audience. It made us all quiet. For a bit.
Wednesday was basically the same. My favourite part was Hound Dog.
Rosie
I really enjoyed Arts Week. There were two casts. Both of them performed the same thing, but with different people. I was in cast one and I was a robot with our buddy class (the Preps). When cast one performs cast two watches. When cast two performs, cast one watches.
Hana
Close ups of a few of the art works.

The cast and crew from 6B paused briefly for a photo before heading back to perform!
Some of our singers and dancers

I loved Arts Week. There were two casts, cast 1 and cast 2. Both the casts did the same thing with different people. When cast 1 performed cast 2 watched and when cast 1 performed cast 1 watched.
My class (4A) was in cast 1, but sadly our SASS lesson was when we were supposed to watch cast 2 and we missed it.
I was performing in the 80’s as the mum and I had golden pants!
A suggestion for next time is a cue to start because the people with the opening line didn’t always know when to start.
Abby
In the music room it started. The performance had started. The 2050 family was going on and I was as nervous as a shaking cheese. A few minutes later, the 2025 family had come back.
“The crowd is bigger than last time, two more rows of adults at the back and all the extra seats are taken!”, said my friend Alex.
I waited . . . and waited . . . aaand waited, until Josh called out to the music room, “1980’s, 1980’s, over here! 1980’s.”
It was time, my (what felt like) doom was at hand.
I walked . . .
Success!! I felt wonderful!
I enjoyed it so much!
Joseph
Let's not forget all the performers!

Prep B was snapped rehearsing in their classroom before the big day.
Our Kinders were busy painting Australian Animals as well as dancing up a storm!

The drama performance was for Arts Week and had two different casts. The topic was different families through the decade, including the 2050’s, the 1950’s, 1960’s, the 1970’s, the 1980’s, the 1990’s and the present day.
I had the role of the teenage son in the 2050’s with five sentences.
My favourite part was waiting in the backstage (music room) and playing Chinese Whispers at least ten times! The people who were in charge of us (grade 6 crew) got annoyed about how many times we played the game, which was quite entertaining.
Also waiting outside the doors at the end, waiting for the final bow was fun because we got to do the dance of the Grade two performance, including the Mexican Wave.
In conclusion, the Arts Week drama performance was really, REALLY fun!
Oscar

“ I like watching all of the shows, the show about playing the music was good” – Ray

“I felt scared at the start, I did feel happy at the end” – Augie
“My favourite part of the show was going on the bear hunt cause of the actions” – Harrison

The Garden group has been helping to plant out native plants to green up the front area of the school. We have been assisted by our wonderful EFA's Sandra, Jacqui and Paul and have worked collaboratively together to complete the planting. We are hoping this will result in not only greening up the space but also providing habitat for wildlife, please be mindful that there are young tube stock in the gardens and refrain from stepping on them or entering the gardens.
5A's Visit to the Festival of Bright Ideas
Recount of Excursion to Elizibeth Collage by Anees and Fergus
On the 15th of August 2025 our class (5A) went to Elizibeth College for a Science Week excursion. We left school at 10:30am and we got on the bus for a ten-minute ride. When we got there two college students showed us to the Elizibeth Collage gym. We were split up into four groups and rotated around different activities. These activities were jumping height and length, speed and agility, strength and endurance, throwing and accuracy. The strongest throw was a tie between Tiaki and Anees (78kph), the highest jump was also a tie between Eleanor and Remi (46cm), the Fastest time for the speed test was Ellis (3.43seconds), the longest wall sit/endurance was Fergus (7minutes and 5seconds), the most amount of sit ups in 1 minute was Lars (49). After this we got back on the bus at 12:20pm for another 10-minute bus ride back to school, we got back at 12:30pm. We all enjoyed this because we learned about sports science and how to train different parts of our bodies. Thank you Jen Mcqueen and Catherine Robinson for being our parent help!
Year 4/5 are undertaking a project which requires a number of picture frames of A3 size or smaller.
Any donations can be left at the front office.
Thank you.

Extra- Curricular Activity - Launceston Cup
This year we Year 5 and Year 4 boys entered a team in the Launceston Cup. Surprisingly, we were the only team in the school to do so. Two years ago, we came 2nd. This year, however, we knew we had a good team, and we were excited.
On Saturday, our first game was against a strong South Hobart Football Club team, but we played well and beat them 7–1 and we were pumped. Our second game against Riverside turned out to be our hardest game, as with 4 seconds left, we scored to win 2–1 and we went fanatic.
We kept the energy as our team went to Du Cane Brewery for some pizza. The climbing wall was also fun, and it was a great first day.
On Sunday, we won our first game 12–0 against Devonport and with that we were in the final. So, at 3:30 pm we played against Ulverstone in the final. We were all nervous, happy and excited. As the whistle blew, the game started very even but soon, they got the first goal. As we clicked in though, we got goal after goal and ended up winning 9–1.
We then went to the medal ceremony, got our medals, congratulated the other team and drove home from a successful weekend with our friends.
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday one of our players, Jack, is going to a big tournament in the Gold Coast for soccer and we wish him good luck.
Extra-Curricular Activity - Indoor Cricket
On the weekend, we went to Croydon in Victoria to play for the Southern Strikers indoor cricket team representing Tasmania in the inaugural Bass Strait Challenge U13s. The tournament was tough because they were all at least 12 years or older and we had a bunch of 9 and 10 years old. Overall, it was very fun, and we learned a bunch.
“I found the tournament very fun, and it was a good challenge to get my skills up.”- Luka
“It was really fun, and I learned a bunch with my leadership being captain and also facing different bowlers and batters was fun.” -Zac
“I was on a different team to Luka and Zac, my team beat Luka’s and Zac’s team barely and they were not happy about it”- Tully
Extra-Curricular Activity - Irish Dancing
Regional Irish dance Championship Sa/NT/Tas
On the 23rd and 24th of August, Hazel, Eliza, Bronte and Maisie all competed at the regional oireachtas (a large official competition) for Irish dance for scoil rince ni Kelly which means ‘Kelly school of Irish dance’ in Irish. We competed against NT and SA. There are many different types of dances you can do (Hornpipe, Jig, Reel). There are also different kinds of shoes (hard shoes and soft shoes) that you were for each dance(Reel- soft, Hornpipe- Hard, Jig- Hard or soft)
Solos
Hazel, Eliza and Maisie all did solos. Hazel and Eliza competed against each other and 16 other competitors.
Maisie also did solos for the first time and was very brave going on stage. She did very well and we were proud of her. The dancers wear numbers so the judge knows who they are and can score fairly and correctly.
Teams
Bronte, Maisie, Eliza and Hazel did teams too. Teams dancing is where you dance in a group from your school doing different types of dances. Our teams were very successful and, throughout the school, we came home with 14 first place trophies!!
Figure
A figure dance is when you perform a dance which is choreographed by your teacher. You dance following a story about Irish fairy tales, folklore or myths in a group of around 10 people. We won our junior figure which was about the three sisters of Dingle Bay and was our second time doing it on stage. The seniors also won their figure which was about Michael Flatley (a famous Irish dancer)
We had to dance non-stop for the two days, but we all danced our best and it was really fun. It was like a big holiday with all our friends!! (Even though we had to wake up at 4:30 to put a massive bun wig and red lipstick on!!)We definitely recommend Scoil Rince Ni Kelly as a dance studio. It’s fun, we work hard, and we’re all like family❤️
