Bush Care - Tree Planting
One Friday the 25th of July 2025, 10 grade sixes were chosen to help with Bush Care and plant trees around the rivulet with the Hobart City Council.
We were greeted by two people called Clare and Beck, they told us information about the rivulet and the plants and trees we were planting.
Two groups got to plant a big Blackwood. The holes that were already dug for us weren’t quite big enough for these established trees so we had to spend time digging to allow them to fit. One of them took an unnecessary FORTY FIVE minutes and they ended up relocating because of a big rock and root that we couldn’t budge.
We also planted Blue Gum, White Gum, Flax Lilies and lasty Poa (a native tuft grass). Once each was planted we used a wire barrier to protect them from wildlife. While we were there we had people take photos and interview us as we went, you can see the write up and photos on the Hobart City Council Bushcare Facebook page.
While we got muddy and a little bit cold, it was a fabulous experience. We look forward to seeing the trees continue to grow for years to come and are thankful to be part of something with our broader South Hobart Community.
